Overview

This resource allows you to add different effects to sounds in the environment. Importantly it doesn’t affect some sound sources: "narrator" and "soundtrack". An example of using this would be using the attenuation filter to dampen the background sound when safety ear protection is put on. See this example at the bottom of this article.

Required Fields

Field Name

Description

Filter

Choose the effects: Attenuate or Low Pass Filter

Attenuate: Apply attenuation/gain to the audio signal.

Attenuation: The range is 0-1.

Low Pass Filter: The Audio Low Pass Filter passes low frequencies while removing frequencies higher than the Cutoff Frequency. You set the Cutoff Frequency here.

Cutoff frequency: Lowpass cutoff frequency in Hertz, range is 0-1.

To end the Audio Filter Resource, use the Deactivate Resource

Events

Open, Activate, Close, Complete.

Using End Script Resource

If you use an End Script Resource in the same script as this resource, the Audio Filter resource will close - meaning it will disappear. An alternative to using the End Script Resource is to create a custom event marking the end of the script and then use that event as a condition where needed in other scripts.

Example in the Headset

In the Motive Lab, I want to use the Attenuate filter to dampen the background noise once the learner is wearing ear protection.

  • Add the background audio file to a frame:

  • In this example, I’m instructing the learner to click on “Ok” to indicate they want the ear protection to be applied on them. Of course, you could script the learner picking up ear protection and putting it on themselves:

  • Once the learner closes the message, the attenuation is applied:

This is what it would look like in the headset:
