Field Name

Description

Anchors

Set an anchor if you want to attach the sound to an object to make it seem like the sound is coming from the area specified.

Loop

Check if you want the sound to repeat.

Volume

0 to 1, 1 is the default.

Pitch

Adjust the pitch of the sound file.

Track

Specify the track for the audio file to indicate its priority.

  • Ambient: Other sounds will play over sounds on the ambient track

  • Narrator: Sounds will stack and play one at a time in the Narrator track. The Deactivate Resource will not stop this type of track.

  • Soundtrack: Crossfade between items/Go back to item 1 when item 2 finishes or is removed.

  • Dialog: Like Narrator except on a character. It queues on the character.

Timer

Set delay or time of day settings.

Priority

The order of the sounds.

  • Normal: Normal order.

  • High: Next in the queue behind the item that needs to finish.

  • Filler: Will play item if nothing has been played in a while, otherwise, doesn't play at all.

  • Interrupt: Stops what is currently playing and plays immediately.

Events

Open, Activate (can be active and not open if it is in line in a narrator track, for instance), Close (unless on loop), Complete (unless on loop).

Stopping the Audio

To end the audio early, let’s say if a learner closes a screen message you want to end the associated audio, you can use a Deactivate Resource. Note that if the track is “Narrator” it will play to the end and the Deactivate Resource will not stop the track.

In this example in the Workshop, I have an audio file that instructs the learner on what to do.  So I've:

  • Chosen that "Your First Task" audio file;

    • Set the Anchor to the "Speaker" so that the sound comes from there;

    • Set the Volume; and

    • Set a Delay of 2 seconds so that the audio doesn't start right away.

This is what the learner will experience:

I’ve chosen the following optional fields:

This is what the learner will experience - listen for the fan noise to start. Note that in my script I have assets spawn first and then the background sound will start:
